What Colombia Taught Me About Community Health
Written By: Mubashshirah Desai
Mubashshirah's experience in Colombia taught her that community health starts with listening. Rather than arriving with solutions, she learned the importance of understanding a community’s priorities, strengths, and lived experiences. Through fieldwork in Tabio, she saw how relationships, patience, and looking beyond a single issue can shape more meaningful health work. Most importantly, she came away recognizing that impact isn’t always immediate but it can also mean building trust, supporting work already underway, and creating a foundation for what comes next.
