HER Mentorship Program

– Build your Skills. Grow your Network. –​

Program Overview: 

​

The HER Mentorship Program is a structured, 4-month experience designed to blend personal and professional development with tangible skill-building and networking to empower women across the public and global health sectors.​

​​

​Running from January to April, the program combines one-on-one mentorship, hands-on project experience, career development programming, and community-building opportunities to help mentees move from learning about public health careers to actively building experience within the field.​

Mentorship Program at a Glance: ​​

​

Program Duration: January 2027 – April 2027

​

Format: Virtual (Zoom)

​

Program Structure: Monthly events, socials and one-on-one meetings with your mentor​

​

Mentees will be thoughtfully matched with mentors based on professional interests, career goals, areas of expertise, and desired career trajectory.

​

Over four months, each mentor-mentee pair will meet individually once per month. These meetings provide dedicated time to discuss career questions, receive feedback, work through challenges, and review progress on the mentee's applied project.

​

Each month, mentees will also have the opportunity to attend skill-building and professional development events designed to strengthen practical career skills and explore broader professional development themes. Mentees will leave each session with actionable strategies and curated resources from The HER Network to support their growth during the program and beyond.

The HER Mentorship Program is designed to give you more than professional advice. By the end of four months, you will have gained practical experience, individualized mentorship, career-building tools, new professional connections, and a tangible example of your work.

​

​Your registration for the mentorship program provides access to a full four-month experience, with a different opportunity to learn, connect, and build your career each month.

​

Time Commitment: ​

​

Mentees should expect to commit a minimum of 14 hours over the full four-month program.

 

This includes:

  • Monthly mentor-mentee meetings (1.5 hour per month)

  • Monthly events (1-2 hours per event)

  • Time to prepare the deliverable (approximately 2+ hours per month) and related activities

Personalized Mentorship

Meet one-on-one with an experienced professional in public or global health each month.​

 

Your mentor can provide insight into their career journey, answer questions about the field, provide feedback on your professional development, and guide you as you complete your applied project.

A Public and Global Health Community​​​

Meet other mentees, mentors, and professionals working across different areas of public and global health.

​​

Through networking and community programming, you will have opportunities to build relationships beyond your individual mentor pairing and become part of the broader HER Network community. 

Real-World Public Health Experience

Put your knowledge into practice by developing a small, professionally relevant project with the guidance of your mentor.

​

Rather than completing a hypothetical assignment, you will work on a defined deliverable connected to your mentor's organization, work, or professional interests, with continuous feedback on your workout throughout the four months to create a professional final product.

​

Projects may include:

  • A policy brief

  • A short program plan

  • A short evaluation plan

  • An environmental scan

  • A literature search and evidence summary

  • A health promotion or communications campaign plan

  • A community resource guide

  • A blog post or short article

  • A logic model or indicator matrix

  • A component of a toolkit or resource package

Career Development

Participate in programming designed around the skills that help early-career public health professionals navigate the workforce.

Across the four months, programming will include opportunities focused on areas such as:

  • Networking and relationship-building

  • Resumes, applications, and communicating your experience

  • Interview preparation and career coaching

  • Elevator pitches and professional storytelling

  • Building an authentic professional brand

  • Public and global health-specific professional skills

  • Health equity and equity-centred professional practice
